"Game of Thrones recap: Season 5 Episode #6 – Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken"

game of thrones 2

Last week’s episode had quite a few jaw dropping moments (of them Lady Olenna opening the window of her carriage and saying “you can smell the shit from five miles away” and Tyrion saying “guess again” in response to being told he has a dwarf sized cock), but the most most talked about moment was quite possibly the season’s darkest.  Interested to hear more?  Oh you KNOW you are so let’s get right to it!

Welcome back Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) who was absent from episode #5.  It’s been weeks since she was granted entry inside the house of black and white and now that she’s spent some time there, she’s grown impatient about her situation.  Can you blame the girl?  Scrubbing corpses for weeks with no idea as to why they need to be scrubbed or why she’s the one being tasked to do it.  She came hoping to learn how be be a faceless man and avenge her family, not learn how to be the chambermaid of the season!  Fear not for young Arya’s time is nearing and when she shows compassion to a dying young girl brought to the house, Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) sees that Arya has progressed and is ready to take the next step in learning the ways needed to have your vengenace.  She’s taken beyond the locked door where Jaqen shows her a chamber full of faces.  If I’m correct (though if not feel free to write in and let us know) these many faces are from the dead who’s bodies are scrubbed before being taken away.  So THAT is how one becomes faceless, by wearing the faces of those who have passed allowing the wearer to take on a different identity.  Cool yet kinda WTF cuz I don’t think I could willingly place a dead person’s face over mine.  MAYBE if my life depended on it.  MAYBE.

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) while pondering their next move end up having a conversation in which a bomb is dropped on Jorah as he learns from Tyrion that his father is dead (killed by his own men no less).  As the men forge ahead on they’re way to Meereen they are taken captive by pirates.  They were about to be slain when Tyrion convinces the pirates to spare their lives by entering Jorah in the fighting pits (which Daenerys has reopened).  Tyrion does have the gift of tongue and the pirates take the bait and accept the challenge.  His evil sister (who also returned last week) Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey)  is enraged after learning that Lady Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) is well and back home at Winterfell living with Lord Roose Bolton (Michael McElhatton) and his son Ramsay (Iwan Rheon).  She still believes that Sansa was responsible for the death of her wicked son Joffery and wants the girl dead.  But how did Cersei learn of Sansa’s whereabouts?  From the conniving little fucker Lord Petyr Baelish (Aiden Gillen) that’s how!  Seems the devious bastard is setting up Roose in exchange for being named Warden of the North (which is what Roose is, a title given to him by the late Tywin Lannister).  Now just who won’t Petyr screw over to get what he wants?  Hell after all he’s done I’m certain he’ll screw over anyone and everyone if it means more social climbing.  Tsk tsk.

Meamwhile Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) has traveled from home in order to see her grandson Ser Larus Tyrell (Terence “Finn” Jones) freed.  Now if you’ve been watching then you know that Cersei orchestrated a plot to have all pillow biters (that’s what they call the gays) punished for being sexual deviants and Larus was among them.  Not only does Larus not go free but his sister Queen Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) is then imprisoned for lying about knowing that Larus is gay.  Cersei is playing one very dangerous game against the Tyrell’s that so far she’s winning, but if she isn’t careful she’s going to get her ass handed to her and I HOPE that Lady Olena and Margaery are the one’s to do it.  Cersei MUST go!  Elsewhere Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn) make it to the Dorne, but upon finding his niece/daughter Princess Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free) they are attacked by three daughters of Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma).  The battle is stopped by Prince Doran’s men who not only take the outsiders into custody, but take the prince’s nieces as well as their mother.  Uh ohhhhh, somebody’s got some explaining to do!

Here comes the bride, miserable and terrified!  NO GOD NO it actually happened as Sansa and Ramsay were married.  Bad enough she’s back home at Winterfell and living amoung strangers, worse that the man who killed her brother Rob is calling the shots, but now this?  I had hoped she would’ve fled for the hills, but no she stayed and was married to Ramsay (Iwan Rheon).  The poor girl (who is still a virgin) is pretty much raped on her wedding night by her monster of a husband and worse, Reek aka Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) is ordered to watch.  How unromantic, who degrading and how humiliating to be mounted in the presence of another.  That damn Ramsay has GOT to go!  Though I want Sansa to kill him, I do hope that Theon grows a backbone and is the one to end that psychopaths life.  After all Ramsay was the one who tortured Theon and then broke him before turning him into Reek.  Tune in to see what episode seven reveals as an all new episode of Game of Thrones airs tonight at 9pm on HBO.
