Kevin “Pills†Montano creates another star studded event for the Latino DJs! Now in its 9th year, the Latin Mixx Awards returns to New York City with another great event. The two day conference included an artist and DJ showcase at club Lexicon in Manhattan which included artists like Renzo which gave a crowd commanding performance. This is the only event that caters to the DJ’s themselves, with that being said, the Dj showcase exposed the skills of some of todays best Latino Djs from around the country. Hosted by Dj Dennis the Menace, the big standout performer to me, was DJ Boi Jeanius who while healing a broken thumb managed to mesmerize the crowd with scratching and overall showmanship.
The Latin Mixx awards show is always a special night for many of us that both deal with Latin Music websites and the DJs themselves. Stage 48 in downtown Manhattan was the venue for the second year in a row. A quick walk through the red carpet and photo line was a great added benefit for those that were nominated for an award. (note CorrienteLatina.com was nominated for the second year in a row for “Best Internet Music and Nightlife websiteâ€)
But what about the show itself you may ask, well with social and radio celebrity presenters like Erica Mena, Tahiry Jose, Stephie Chacon, Jaylah Sandoval and Emily B as well as celebrities like George Lamond, K7 from TKA, Frankie Negron and A&X to name a few how can you not feel like a star yourself.
As is every tradition, you must always try to outdo last year. Well this year, you couldn’t have missed the 2014 LMX Icon Award that was given to Jelly Bean Benitez and the 2014 LMX Lifetime Achievement Award that was given to the one and only Johnny Ventura.
This is a must attend event for up and coming artists as well up and coming and established DJs to network with peers and brooding your networking circle.
