“Contra La Corriente”: A Labor of Love Album (Revisited 2025)

3 minute read by

Once upon a time—okay, a really long time ago—two guys with a dream, CL Rich and DJ Calle, decided to put out an album featuring some incredible artists. And just like that, Corriente Latina Music Group was born. (Yeah, we know, it’s a mouthful.) But there we were, chasing the dream.

At the time, we had three artists signed to our “label”—Kufa Castro, Benjamin Arce, and Big Preme (El Primo). Each one brought something unique to the table, making this project more than just an album—it was a movement; at least I thought.

Kufa Castro: The Trailblazer

Kufa was the first artist we signed, and together, we built something special. Our names became practically synonymous. He had talent in spades—he just needed a major label, serious funding, and the kind of promotion we simply couldn’t provide back then. Still, I couldn’t be prouder to see him thriving today with his new album, 10,000 Horas en Frente del Espejo.

Benjamin Arce: The Musical Genius

Benjamin was a marvel. He played his own instruments, shot his own videos, and was a lyrical powerhouse. His smooth, California-cool voice set the perfect vibe for this album. The only catch? It was all in English—and, well, I had zero experience marketing R&B. But damn, his music was fire.

Big Preme (El Primo): The Unsung Legend

Preme was, hands down, one of the most talented artists I’ve ever worked with. He wrote all his lyrics, produced his own tracks, and created music that still holds up today. I still play his songs, and my admiration for him hasn’t faded one bit.

The album was rounded out by other incredible artists like Gabkas (who I met in Orlando), Big Sense, N.E.S., Dynasty, and JT Y La Nueva Escuela—brought in by Tony Delavora, who played a unique role in shaping the project.

At the time, we secured a digital distribution deal with Orchard Music Group under a label Tony had. It was an exciting period—so much so that I actually quit my job to focus full-time on marketing the album. Unfortunately, with no major budget, no prime placements, and me handling everything solo, the sales didn’t exactly skyrocket.

But you know what? We did it. We saw our vision through, and to this day, I remain incredibly proud of Contra La Corriente.

Now, it’s your turn—take a listen and experience the magic.
