Last evening, BACARDÍ and Swizz Beatz’ The Dean Collection celebrated opening night of No Commission: Art Performs, a multi-day immersive event where art and music collide for showcases by day and night. Featuring musical performances, visual art galleries and immersive installations in the Bronx, No Commission: Art Performs celebrates the artist hustle, where it all began.
Held at a waterfront warehouse in the South Bronx, the significance of the location of No Commission is two-fold, as both the birthplace of Swizz Beatz and the genesis of global contemporary art forms, Hip Hop and Graffiti. In fact, today also marked the 43rd anniversary of the birth of hip hop, which was kick-started when DJ Kool Herc hosted a legendary party in the South Bronx in 1973.
BACARDÍ and The Dean Collection are investing in, celebrating and giving back to this community that remains integral to New York’s cultural heritage. Using the South Bronx as a point of inspiration, regeneration and optimism are the fair’s guiding principles, and the exhibition highlights artists who explore hybridity and exuberance in their artistic narratives.
No Commission is a platform that is designed specifically to support artists, and forges a direct link between artists’ practices and art patronage. All artists are given their exhibition space for free and 100% of the sale of each artwork goes directly back to them.
In addition to the works of numerous visual artists, guests attending No Commission: Art Performs enjoyed fare from local food trucks, and BACARDÍ signature cocktails, including the BACARDÍ Old Fashioned, BACARDÍ Reserva Punch, and the aptly named Showtime, made with BACARDÍ Grapefruit, Pineau des Charantes, Combier, Orange Blossom honey syrup, and lime juice.
Opening night kicked off with an energetic DJ set DJ Norie, who warmed up the crowd before Swizz Beatz himself took to the stage. Swizz expressed his appreciation for everyone who came out for event, the artists who contributed to the showcase, and the importance of making art accessible to all.
After spinning for more than an hour, Swizz introduced A$AP Rocky, who rocked the house with dynamic performances of his biggest hits, including “Peso,” “Shabba,” “Goldie,” and “L$D.” To wrap up his set, Swizz and Rocky brought out A$AP Ferg and surprise guest Doug E. Fresh.
Chanel Iman was spotted backstage dancing with friends and enjoying a BACARDI Maestro Collins, while Jessica White, Ty Hunter, and Coco Rocha hung out in the BACARDÍ VIP area.
No Commission: Art Performs will continue tomorrow evening, when Swizz Beatz will be joined by DJ Runna, Young Thug, and special guest, Fabolous.
No Commission: Art Performs is the second in a series of untameable artist collaborations between BACARDÍ and The Dean Collection. The first edition of No Commission coincided with Art Basel Miami in 2015, and over $1 million in art were sold during the fair.
The No Commission experience is brought to life through a partnership between BACARDÍ, Swizz Beatz, and The Dean Collection in their continued support of cultural visionaries around the world.
