First can I breathe a sigh of RELIEF that Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) survived the ambush attack on his men? I SERIOUSLY considered no longer watching if he was killed off. To me he his important and a vital of member Daenerys army and people. He is a living symbol and reminder of the GOOD that she has accomplished but also that there are still people in the world with goodness inside them. Ok now that I’ve gotten that off my chest let’s talk about last week’s episode.
Speaking of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), as the young Queen mourns Ser Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney) who fell during the ambush on Grey Worm’s men, she has had ENOUGH with the attacks and unnecessary deaths and ponders what to do. She first has the leaders of all of Meereen’s great families taken and brought down to the dungeons below. Yup the SAME dungeons where her children (the last living dragons of the world) are kept. She sends one of the leaders forward who is set ablaze then torn apart before being devoured by the hungry beasts. She wants the leaders to fear for their lives because they too can easily be put to death. After seeking council she’s decided to free the leaders as well as bringing back some traditions to Meereen. She has also decided that the best way to forge a lasting bind with the people of Meereen is to marry one of their leaders (though her choice is lackluster in the looks department).
Lord Commander Jon Snow (Kit Harington) certainly has his work cut out for him. His decision to ally with the Wildlings devides the Night’s Watch and though it may not be the most likable plan with the blood that was spilled on both sides, winter is coming and they’ll need ALL the help they can get before the cold returns bringing with it the white walkers (zombie demons). The Night’s Watch and the Wildlings stand a better chance as a united front then they would as separate entities. When it’s survival of the fittest, those who fight hard and think smart are the one’s who’ll survive to see another day and that’s EXACTLY what Jon is trying to do. STAND with him people, yawl ain’t got any better ideas so STFU and #GetWithThePlan
Elsewhere his half sister Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) continues to grin and bear her current situation. Now back at Winterfell (the home she once knew and loved) she’s surrounded by strangers led by Lord Roose Bolton (Michael McElhatton), the man who killed her brother Rob, along with his son Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) who she is set to marry. How she hasn’t screamed out loud or made an attempt on Roose’s life is BEYOND me! I couldn’t sit ANYWHERE near the person responsible for the death of my brother, but it makes one wonder if Sansa is merely keeping her cool until an opportunity presents itself. Hmmmmmm…..
Though Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is still a prisoner of Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) he decides to spark up conversation in an effort to make the journey more bearable. As the men pass through Valyria (the ancestral homeland of Daenerys) the conversation is cut short when they are attacked by stone men. They are called stone men because their skin looks like hardened rock and if they touch your skin then you too will turn into one of them. Tyrion and Jorah survive the assault to live another day, but what Tyrion doesn’t know is that Jorah didn’t escape untouched. How long can Jorah keep it a secret and just how long does he have before he is turned? I’m guessing he could last through the end of next season, but seeing that almost no one is ever really safe, he could be turned by season’s end.
Episode 6 of the season airs tonight at 9pm on HBO. DO tune in so as not to be one of a hand full of fools that didn’t watch ONLY to be LEFT out of the conversation at work or to have things spoiled for you through online and social media. It happened to me last season (I just started watching the show last spring) and I VOWED it wouldn’t happen again!
