Wayans Bros (Where are they now?)

If you know me, you know that this is one of my favorite shows of all time. The humor on this show was laugh out loud funny as well as over the top. Marlon’s physical comedy is genius and well balanced by Shawn’s straight edge comedy.  So where are they Now?

The Wayans Bros Show written by TJHousel was a mostly autobiographical comedy that starred on the WB from 1995 to 1999. The comedy starred Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, John Witherspoon, and Anna Maria Horsford. In the wildly popular show, the Wayans brothers played Marlon and Shawn Williams, who were two brothers running a newsstand with their Pops’ (John Witherspoon) restaurant nearby. Dee Baxter (Anna Maria Horsford) was the security guard in the building where the two Williams’ businesses operated. She had a special relationship with all three of the men. Although the show ended after five seasons in 1999, each of these main characters has gone on to have successful relationships and have even worked with each other from time to time.

Marlon-Wayans Marlon Wayans – Career from 1999 to 2016
Marlon Wayans is the youngest sibling in his incredibly talented family. Out of 9 siblings, Marlon is obviously closest to his slightly older brother, Shawn. In fact, each of the comedic brothers has a son named after the other. Since The Wayans Bros series ended. Marlon has gone on to act in several movies; many of which were written and starred in with Shawn.Movies that you could have seen the youngest Wayans brother in since 1999 include Scary Movie (2000), Scary Movie 2 (2001), White Chicks (2004), and Littleman (2006). The four respective comedies were all written and co-starred in by both Marlon and Shawn Wayans. Other movies that the 6′ NYC comedy has appeared in include; Norbit (2007), GI Joe (2009), The Heat (2014) A Haunted House (2013) and A Haunted House 2 (2014). The next time we can plan to see Marlon is in the 2016 parody comedy Fifty Shades of Black. In addition to movie roles, Marlon has also appeared as a guest judge on America’s Got Talent and accompanied his brother on a comedy tour named after their once popular WB comedy. While best known as a wacky comedian that lives to make people laugh, Marlon has expressed his interest in taking on more serious roles in the future.
Shawn Wayans Shawn Wayans – Career from 1999 to 2016
Since Marlon and Shawn Wayans are so close, it’s no surprise that they have been up to just about the same thing; until 2009. In 2009, Marlon appeared in the blockbuster GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra as Ripcord and Shawn wrote and produced the film Dance Flick. Dance Flick was not well received by audiences and considered a flop in the industry. Since that time, Shawn has avoided the spotlight but did accompany his brother on the 2014 Wayans Bros Comedy tour.
John Witherspoon John Witherspoon – Career from 1999 to 2016
John was the Williams’ brothers fictional father in the Wayans Bros sitcom and has gone on to play wacky, eccentric, paternal characters ever since. One of the most remembered roles Witherspoon portrayed since 1999 was Willie Jones in all three Friday movies. Witherspoon and Ice Cube are the only two actors that appeared in each of the Friday movies; including the original, Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002). The 70-something comedic actor has also appeared in Little Nicky (2000), The Ladies Man (2000) and starred in the hit series The Tracy Morgan Show from 2003 to 2004. While many enjoyed the Tracy Morgan show, it was canceled after just one season. In the future, we can plan to see the actor in Bring Me the Head of Lance Henriksen.
Anna Maria Horsford Anna Maria Horsford – Career from 1999 to 2016
In the Wayans Bros Show, Horsford played the beloved security guard Dee Baxter. Since the end of the show, Horsford has gone on to star in several movies. Like Witherspoon, she starred in Friday and Friday After Next as the mother of Ice Cube’s character, Craig, and the wife of John Witherspoon’s character, Willie. She’s also appeared in The Choir Director (2015), Bold and the Beautiful (as Vivienne Avant), The Soul Man, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and in A Madea’s Christmas. As of now, there is nothing new in the works for Horsford, but since she has been in the business since she was 4-years-old chances are we will see her again soon.

Now you know what happened to your favorite characters that once occupied the fictional Neidermeyer Building in Rockefeller Center. Since the Wayans brothers (Shawn and Marlon) have evolved from sketch comedians on In Living Color to successful comedic actors, it’s easy to believe that there will be more laughs from this comedic dynamic duo in the future.
