On March 23-24, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) will host IMPACT, EMA’s first-annual investment and innovation summit at the Montage in Beverly Hills, California. The Summit will bring together dynamic entrepreneurs, iconic entertainment figures, prominent investors, and philanthropic leaders for two days of intensive programming with the goal of building a community of passionate leaders, dedicated to personal responsibility and making an IMPACT on the future of our planet. Since being founded over twenty-five years ago, EMA has been singular in harnessing the power of the media and entertainment communities to pioneer a high impact model of social activism utilizing storytelling, message development, and brand integration to drive awareness and action.
“EMA’s Summit is another way the organization is using its power to promote positive change in the environmental movement. We need to focus on solutions now more than ever. We must create these solutions through innovation and the investment of resources,” said Van Jones, President & Co-Founder of Dream Corps.
“The time is now to take action to protect our planet by both inspiring future innovators to create change through their concepts and informing current investors on the ways they can make a difference through the companies in which they invest,” said Debbie Levin, President of the Environmental Media Association. “IMPACT is a natural next step to expand what has always been EMA’s sweet spot—bringing together the smartest, most innovative, and most creative minds across industries that often do not intersect to collaborate, educate, and drive solutions that can appeal to investors and environmentalists alike.”
EMA IMPACT Summit’s diverse programming will provide an unparalleled opportunity for attendees to identify opportunities for personal and professional empowerment and join forces to create change on issues affecting our planet. IMPACT will bring together a range notable speakers including: Jaden Smith, Actor, Activist and investor in JUST Water, Van Jones, President & Co-Founder of Dream Corps, activist, Molly Swenson, CMO RYOT, David Margulies, CEO of New Pacific Reality, John Streur, President & CEO of Calvert Investments, Ray Halbritter, CEO and Head of The Oneida Nation, Robyn O’Brien, Founder of Allergy Kids, Rob Fishman, Co-Founder NICHE.
The Summit will also host EMA’s inaugural, FUTURE INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR CHALLENGE—a competition for young entrepreneurs to pitch their planet-altering startup concepts to a panel of esteemed venture capitalist judges on site at the Summit. The winner will receive the New Pacific Future Innovator of the Year Grant, which will include a year of mentorship from EMA’s Senior Impact Advisory Board, as well as a $50,000 annual grant to each year’s winner, made possible by Chairman of the EMA Board, David Margulies, CEO of New Pacific Reality.
“I have witnessed firsthand the tangible effects of the support of The Environmental Media Association. Not only has EMA always been a community for innovation, but through their tireless work in messaging, the organization has bolstered sales on sustainable businesses; from consumer-facing products to investment and commercial development. At a moment where many in our country want to make meaningful and impactful change in how we treat our environment, there is no better way to move the needle then by changing our habits personally and professionally,” said David Margulies, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Media Association. “I am excited to welcome the next great generation of business minds to the Summit and look forward to supporting their plans for a more sustainable future.”
Since its founding, EMA has honored landmark figures in business including Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and Jessica Alba. EMA has also been credited with acting as a huge factor in launching consumer awareness for several of today’s most successful sustainable brands, including their landmark celebrity-driven campaign to popularize the globally bestselling hybrid, Toyota Prius, as well as each alternative fuel vehicle that TMS keeps innovating. Currently, EMA is working closely with them on the hydrogen fuel cell, Mirai. These factors inspired EMA to turn their focus to creating a dedicated event focused on personal, professional and corporate impact.
IMPACT will complement EMA’s flagship annual EMA Awards, which annually recognizes environmental efforts across entertainment, and is considered one of the year’s most acclaimed and anticipated events across any industry. Over the years the EMA Awards has hosted and honored additional entertainers and activists such as Al Gore, Matt Damon, Shailene Woodley, Justin Timberlake, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill McKibben, Mikhail Gorbachev, Robert Redford, Willie Nelson and Don Henley, several of whom are also Board members of the organization.
